Applying Patches with Heat Activated Adhesive
Dual Heated Platen Hat Press:
No Pre-press required if you follow the below instructions.
- Set bottom platen to 320 °F and top platen to 280 °F
- We like to use a heat gun to "activate the adhesive on the back of the patch and warm patch slightly on low to medium heat for 3-5 seconds until adhesive is tacky.
- Place patch on hat or apparel to your desired location.
- Cover the patch and crown of the hat with silicone pad and press for 30-40 seconds. (Not all heat presses are the same. So, you will have to dial in your own settings.
- Allow to cool to room temperature before testing adhesion.
- Optional: Sew on patch for durable retail-ready bond.
Single Heated Platen Hat or Flat Press (This can be tricky, but can be done):
- Set top platen to 280 °F- 300 °F
- We like to use a heat gun to "activate the adhesive on the back of the patch and warm patch slightly on low to medium heat for 3-5 seconds until adhesive is tacky.
- Place patch on hat or apparel to your desired location.
- Cover the patch and crown of the hat with silicone pad and press for 30-40 seconds. (Not all heat presses are the same. So, you will have to dial in your own settings.
- Allow to cool to room temperature before testing adhesion.
- Using light pressure and upper platen's heat setting now turned off, press for additional 15-20 seconds. This step may need to be repeated 2-3 times to ensure complete adhesion.
- Allow to cool to room temperature before testing adhesion.
- Optional: Sew on patch for durable retail-ready bond.
